Coast Guard Guidance on Hazardous Location Electrical Markings

The United States Coast Guard “Outer Continental Shelf National Center of Expertise” (the “OCS NCOE”) publishes from time to time guidance on their website concerning various vessel inspection and safety issues.  They are currently putting out a “multi-part series on the interpretation of markings for electrical equipment installed in a Hazardous Location or Hazardous Area, abbreviated in this series as HazLoc. This analysis is intended to help personnel understand electrical equipment markings to verify that the equipment is safe for the areas in which it is installed.”

This may be of interest to vessel construction teams as they oversee detail design work and equipment selection.

The “Drill Down” guidance from the OCS NCOE is available here with the most recent material at the bottom of the list.
